Lapidary Journal and Colored Stone are proud
to present the winners of the third annual Gemmys competition. Entries were judged
for overall design, visual appeal and impact, originality, and execution in five
categories: faceted, cabochon, specially cut, gem objects, and man-made gem materials.
Our esteemed judges were John Nels Hatleberg, a conceptual gem artist and authority
on creating exact replicas of famous diamonds; Gordon D. Aatlo, a goldsmith and
jewelry maker who has been designing and manufacturing world-class jewelry for
more than 40 years; and Robert Weldon, a noted photographer and writer, currently
the manager of Photography and Visual Communications at the Gemological Institute
of America.
Congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone who entered their
exquisite work in our competition.
For all those who put stone to wheel, we invite you to enter the 2008 Gemmy
Awards - entry forms will be available at www.lapidaryjournal.com/contest
early in mid-February 2007.
Compiled by Kristen L. Gibson, Assistant Editor. For more information about
